1. When I click on a video clip or document, it won't open. Why?
| Our video clips and documents usually contain pictures and may be large files. Be patient, it may take a minute or two. Make sure that you have the most up to date Adobe Flash reader (it's free from www.adobe.com) for the documents and the most up to date video readers either Adobe Flash player or Windows Media Play (also free from Windows Media Download Center or Adobe) |
2. What is the HDRC?
| The Human Development Resource Council, Inc. (HDRC), an educational 501(c)(3) not for profit organization that produces and internationally distributes high quality multi-media materials based on sourced and documented medical research. HDRC seeks to equip medical professionals, organizations, schools and individuals with current scientific knowledge on the subjects of human embryonic & fetal development, reproductive options and sexual health. Our medical libraries include materials formatted for both professionals and learners providing education for both the provider and those they serve. |

| The HDRC is not a medical entity, but reports on current medical knowledge and research. The purpose of our library is to provide medically cited, sourced and documented facts for information and/or educational purposes only. This material is not a substitute for professional care, advice, diagnosis or treatment. This information should not be used for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. Consult a licensed physician for diagnosis and treatment of any and all medical conditions. |
5. Why does the HDRC exist?
| The HDRC exists to provide and distribute educational materials that cite medical sources on the subjects of embryonic and fetal development, reproduction and abortion options, and sexual health. Medical opinion is valuable and readily available to most that have access to medical professionals. The statements in our products and downloadable documents, videos, presentations and statistical pages contain primary sourced medical facts. |
6. What are the HDRC’s criteria for source accuracy?
- Presents information in compliance with acceptable clinical standards and guidelines.
- Presents clear references to sources of information.
- Displays author’s name and affiliations.
- Includes satisfactory breadth and depth of information on the topic.
- Date of original source is as current as possible including updates, and modifications.
- Source explains potential shortcoming or inaccuracies.
- Discloses information about ownership, sponsorship, funding, and conflicts of interest
- Presents acceptable level of evidence and hierarchy of evidence.
- Ability to contact researchers, creators, or editors of research or materials.

7. What are the HDRC online courses?
| The HDRC online courses are PowerPoint presentations that include slides and speakers notes of medically sourced and cited facts including bibliographies. These courses include various slide numbers and are available as downloads. |
8. What are HDRC standards for fact sources?
| The facts used in HDRC library, DVD’s, CD’s and brochures are derived from a variety of medical sources including text books, research abstracts, medical and scientific publications and journals. Where there is significant conflicting data, both findings and references will be included in our library. |
9. How does the HDRC decide that the source can be used in their library?
| HDRC evaluates the quality of data and references of those organizations and institutions that it deems most credible based on our accuracy criteria. HDRC’s inclusion or exclusion of any institution or organization is in no way an endorsement nor intended to discredit any researcher or institution. |
10. How does the HDRC decide the fact can be used in their library?
| Medical Definitions are taken from standard dictionary texts by Marian-Webster Dictionary or Medline plus medical dictionary through the National Library of Medicine.
Medical Statements of fact that fall outside general knowledge require a citation from primary sources that meet HDRC’s Accuracy Indicators including, but not limited to government agencies, health foundations and associations, medical journals and accredited medical colleges. HDRC excludes from their bibliography policy statements, commercial websites, and secondary sources. |
11. What are HDRC standards for behavior recommendations and statistical reports?
| Behavior Recommendations and Statistical reporting require the highest standard for critical analysis. US and International government agencies are generally reliable and are usually the most acceptable for HDRC data. However, HDRC analysis of these sources includes sample selection, outcome definitions, and considers if conclusions are linked to the results in order to maximize context accuracy. Behavioral recommendations are only made when the data indicates consequence that is not conflicting and/or includes percentage rates. |
12. Who writes and reviews HDRC facts?
| HDRC library items, DVD’s, CD’s, and brochures are written from the medical sources that meet our accuracy indicators by medical professionals, professional writers or our staff. A team of medical physicians review the transcripts, sources, and abstracts for context and accuracy. |
13. What if I cannot find the fact I am looking for?
| HDRC updates our library every month with new topics and titles. Please sign up for our monthly email that will provide links to the new titles. You may also submit a fact for us to check through an email to us. Please note that HDRC will only provide this service in the categories of our specialty. Our research coordinator will respond to let you know our approval of your request, how long we expect our search will take, and then when we are done we will let you know if fact you are looking for can be supported with a medical citation and if so, what it is. Ask the Librarian. |
14. What are the HDRC Medical Desk References?
| Our desk references include all of our fact sheets, in all categories, organized as a notebook. The HDRC recommends that these Medical Desk References may be purchased once per year. During that year, purchasers should expect a MDR email update monthly, that includes links to the pages added or updated in that month and where those updates fit in the book. The HDRC Medical Desk Reference includes a page to print for the tabs and is available in either a Professional or Learner version as well as various languages. |
15. What is the difference in the Professional and Learner version of the MDR?
| The HDRC offers Professional versions for you, your staff, teachers, and other professionals to use and contains more detailed information. The HDRC Learner version is designed for those you are educating, is more concise and has a lower reading level and vocabulary. |

| The HDRC is a non profit organization and operates primarily from donations. Downloads and products are available for a suggested donation amount. |
17. Are donations for products tax deductible?

19. What is a downloadable resource?
| The HDRC offers some of our print, video, presentation, photo and audio items for electronic copy to your computer. Once these items are downloaded to your computer, HDRC allows you to reproduce our copyrighted materials for your own use, as long as you do not sell or change what you download. |
20. How do I download?
Press the Add to Cart button on any item that you wish to copy to your computer. This will take you to your shopping cart. Do not purchase the download until you have made all your download and product selections for the day. Once you have added a download or product to your shopping cart, instead of checking out, click "go back” to add additional items. Just like in the store, if you end up with too many, you can always remove them before you purchase. But there is no need to purchase until you have all you want for the day. Once you purchase the items, they will be waiting for you to download in your cart.
Since many of our downloads are large files, we recommend that you close all other programs before you download. If you have a dial up connection to the internet, it may take a few minutes to download.

21. How many copies of a fact sheet may I make?
| When you download an item to your computer, HDRC owns the content, art, and format through our copyright. HDRC states the copy conditions on each page of each document for the person that downloaded the materials to reproduce as many copies as you want as long as you do not change, add to, or charge a fee to anyone that receives the document. As long as you honor our conditions, and have downloaded the document yourself, you may print from your computer, reproduce an original on a copy machine, post on a website, attach in an email, or send the download to a printer for a high quality reproduction for free of charge distribution in its entirety and unchanged, that includes the HDRC copyright and trademark. The HDRC does NOT grant permission for the copy of any of our downloaded materials, in part or in whole, in products or presentations that will be sold or exchanged for any compensation. We recommend that visitors shop our brochures before paying for quantity professional printing of our fact sheets. Most of the facts on our fact sheets are found within our brochures, and may be a better value than printing. |

23. Why are some of your videos and photographs only “viewable” and not “downloadable”?
| HDRC can only distribute information under the licensing conditions of the owners of the images. HDRC honors the copyright and licensing conditions of those images that we do not own. When our usage license is limited to “online preview”, then that item may not be copied or downloaded from our library. Those that copy or reproduce items in our library that are only available for viewing will be in violation of copyright and trademark laws of the US and will be subject to prosecution. |
24. What is an Adobe PDF document?
| PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It's a distribution format developed by Adobe Corporation to allow electronic information to be transferred between various types of computers. The software which allows this transfer is called Acrobat. In order to view and print a PDF file you will first need to download and install a copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. 25. What is a Power Point presentation?
| PowerPoint is a complete presentation graphics package in a series of slides that can be presented with a projector connected to your computer, or as overhead transparencies that you print from your computer. The HDRC provides everything you need to produce a professional-looking presentation. Since our downloadable PowerPoint presentations are in Adobe format, the slides do not have animation or embedded video. The HDRC also offers products that are based on a slide program that will run on either Mac or IBM computers and include animation and video. |
26. What is a downloadable Power Point slide?
| The HDRC’s PowerPoint slide can also be presented with a projector connected to your computer, or as overhead transparencies that you print from your computer and will be most useful in combination with other slides for a complete presentation. In addition to the slide, you can print or view the HDRC speaker's notes. Since our downloadable PowerPoint slides are in an Adobe format, the slide will not include animation or embedded video. |
27. What is a Fact Sheet?
| The HDRC Library includes many fact sheets appropriate for printing in either color or black and white. These fact sheets include the topical information in a professional or learner version and include the bibliographies. |
28. What is Flash Video?
| (FLV) Flash Video is a file format that allows videos to be viewed over the internet. In order to download or view one of our videos, you will need to have the free Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer and Java Script enabled in your browser. |
29. Who is a friend of the library?
| The HDRC considers those that contribute to the HDRC, without requesting downloads or products, or in excess of the suggested donation for the resource, a Friend of the Library! Please see the current projects that the HDRC is looking for friends to help us with. |
30. What library benefit does the HDRC have for its friends?

35. What languages are the HDRC resources available in?
| Once you enter the library with a word search or by choosing a category, the drop down box titled Language will give a list of current language options. |
36. What if I need a language that you don’t offer?
| The HDRC Librarian accepts language requests. Once your request has been made the Librarian will contact you for additional information in order for the HDRC to consider the translations. The HDRC translates based on these requests. |

| HDRC has used it own fact library to produce ready to use resources. Many of the “viewable only” items in our library are available for you to use in our DVD’s, CD’s, and Brochures. You may request these items for a suggested donation amount to be delivered to your address. |
41. Can I copy HDRC’s DVD’s, CD’s, Courses and Brochures?
| No. The items that are delivered to you are protected by HDRC copyright. Many of the images included in these items are not owned by HDRC but are produced under a limited licensing agreement with the owner which prohibits copying. |
42. What is an HDRC resource?
| The HDRC Library is available at no charge for public viewing. All of our library documents, video clips, photographs, and reference guides are resources. |
43. Search
The resources in HDRC’s Medical Library are searchable by “keywords.” Each document is tagged to “words” that relate specifically to the content of the resource, the audience, or the language (English, Spanish) of the document. If you wish to see resource materials about “pregnancy,” you could enter “pregnancy” or “pregnant” into the “search box.” If you do not find what you want, try another form of the word. If you want to see documents “learners” vs. “professionals,” enter “learner(s)” or “professional(s)” in the search box. You may also enter a language to see all documents in that language. HINT: If you want to see documents in a particular language any time you’re inside the Library/Downloads section of this site, you can select an available language from the drop down box at the top of the screen in the Library/Downloads section. |
44. How do you ship DVD’s, CD’s and Brochures?
| HDRC ships through the US mail (of course, at library rate). Our overseas requests are made through the least expensive means of delivery. |
